- Briefing existing IITA project staff on techniques for participatory mapping
- Leading the implementation of participatory mapping in the five project communities in the Boumba and Ngocko Division where activities are being implemented
- Elaborate together with community members in each community including:
- The mapping of current land uses by community members
- The identification of potential future land uses of lands by the community
- The areas of particular conflict with wildlife or specific wildlife movement areas
- The identification of areas that could be suitable for intensified agriculture, increased tree cover and/or for restoration activities
- Elaborate a plan and implement the mapping process for the five communities over a two-three month period
- Conduct training sessions and integrate existing project staff into the mapping process
- Produce community maps for each community superimposed on georeferenced digital maps
- Provide a detailed report including the process or approach used, the difficulties or constraints faced and the recommendations
- Provide a digital resource pack including reference materials and guides on the participatory mapping process for staff
- Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor.
- At least three (03) years of relevant experience in the field of Cartography, Environment, Rural development.
- Experience working in an international team is an advantage
- The candidate must communicate fluently in English and French both written and spoken.
- Fluency in a language used in the project sites would also be an advantage.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Strong understanding of forest ecology and restoration principles.
- Able to work and communicate collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Willing and able to travel to the project sites as needed
- Experience in participatory mapping methods
- Skills in collecting geographic data in the field
- Experience in working with rural and indigenous communities
- Experience in community engagement and participatory planning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize and deliver training
