Positions Available4DescriptionSecondary schools in Cameroon have requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRV) to serve as STEM Education Specialists. Cameroon has staked its vision for economic growth and technological advancement on STEM teaching in schools, with a special focus on promoting girls' empowerment in the STEM fields. To meet this vision, the country is transitioning from a teacher-centered system to a more interactive student-centered, competency-based system which places the learner at the center of the education experience. This transition from a teacher-centered education system to a student-centered system has its own challenges both for the students and teachers. While teachers are struggling with creating competency-based learning experiences, students themselves are challenged by the new more interactive system. The PCRV will collaborate with the school principal and other staff to build the capacity of local teachers in the use of digital tools, interactive student-centered teaching methods, and research-based teaching practices that target all learners in the classroom. The PCRV will also be engaging students in interactive learning, teaching one or two STEM subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science or Statistics to secondary school students, and implementing STEM-related and life skills club(s) in the school aiming to improve girls' participation in STEM activities.Request TypePCR000 PCR VolunteerPostCameroonPartner Organization NameBilingual Secondary SchoolsRequired Skills

The assignment will be implemented in English, but French is the primary language used in the community.
